About Chicken & Biscuits on Broadway

A new feel-good comedy that will feed your soul.

The Jenkins family is coming together to celebrate the life of their father—hopefully without killing each other! Eldest daughter, Baneatta, wants everything to be perfect for her father's funeral. "Favorite” daughter, Beverly, would rather honor her daddy dressed to show the entire congregation what she’s been “blessed with." Teenage granddaughter, La’trice, can’t mind her own business if it was on a leash. Not far behind comes grandson Kenny and his very Jewish boyfriend Logan who is maybe, sort of, okay definitely afraid of Baneatta. But Baneatta’s hopes unravel when a family secret shows up at the funeral...

Featuring Tony Award® nominee Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess) in his first Broadway play and Drama Desk winner Michael Urie (Buyer and Cellar), Chicken and Biscuits is a raucous family comedy so full of laughter and love, it’ll leave you begging for seconds.

The Jenkins family is gathering for the funeral of their dear departed patriarch and Baneatta, the eldest daughter, needs everything to go smoothly. But her sister Beverly has some differing views on dress code, her granddaughter La’Trice can’t mind her own business, and her grandson Kenny plans to show up with a Jewish boyfriend. Then, when a family secret walks in the door, Beanatta’s dreams of a smooth celebration go flying out the window.

Chicken & Biscuits is an uproarious new play by Douglas Lyons full of laughter and love. Featuring a mostly Black cast in a season of unprecedented representation for Black creatives on Broadway, Chicken & Biscuits also marks the Broadway debut for both Lyons and director Zhailon Levingston, who at 27 becomes the youngest Black director in Broadway history.

Before Chicken & Biscuits on Broadway, the play began life at New York’s Queens Theatre in early 2020, where it played for less than two weeks before its run was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic. Now this universal tale finds its new home at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre, where it promises to leave audiences begging for seconds. Chicken & Biscuits tickets will be available soon.
